St. Paul the Apostle Youth Ministry (SPY)
Welcome to St. Paul’s Youth (SPY)!
SPY is open to all parish teens and their friends. We offer programs throughout the year for all ages.
High School: Our high school program includes monthly hot topics, socials and service projects. Teens have the option of meeting on Sunday mornings in the SPY Room (formally Classroom O) from 9:25 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. Rob and Kelly Langston are the primary catechists with the Sunday morning group with support from Susan Rabold. Alternatively, teens can attend on Sunday evenings. The Sunday evening group meets immediately after the 5 p.m. Mass for dinner in the Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. with program starting at 6:30 and ending around 7:45 p.m. The service projects are the primary difference between the two programs. Given the gathering time frame the Sunday morning group will typically help prep for the service project with the evening program going off-campus for the actual service projects. For example in January the Sunday morning group baked cookies and made cards for our homebound parishioners; and the Sunday evening group visited over 50 of our home bound parishioners to deliver the cards and cookies.
Confirmation Year 1 & Year 2: Greensboro is in the Diocese of Charlotte and in our Diocese teens who have received continuous Faith Formation preparation, are prepared and are ready for Confirmation may be Confirmed in 8th grade. Confirmation is a two year program with Year 1 designed for 7th grade teens and Year 2 for 8th grade teens. Older teens who have not been Confirmed and who desire Confirmation will either be placed in content appropriate classes with the 8th grade teens or if we have at least 5 then we will have a class specifically for their age group. Confirmation classes are offered at three different time throughout the week: Sunday morning (9:25 – 10:35); Sunday evening (6 – 7:45 (dinner from 6 – 6:30)); or Wednesday evening (6:30 – 7:30). The curriculum for Year 1 and Year 2 includes the Bible and Decision Point by Dynamic Catholic. Year 2 has two mandatory retreats – one in the fall and one in the spring, service hour requirements and participation in the Living Stations drama.
Elementary and Younger: SPY hosts the annual Halloween Fall Festival the weekend prior to Halloween; the Christmas Pageant prior to the 4 pm Christmas Eve Liturgy; and an Easter Egg Hunt on Palm Sunday each year for our younger parish youth. Many of our older teens serve as peer leaders and help plan, organize, set up, and run the games and activities at these events.
