St. Paul the Apostle became the fifth Roman Catholic Parish in Greensboro on July 15, of 1974. Founded by the Paulist Fathers and a congregation of 90 families, the parish was mobile for the first couple of years, celebrating Mass at a local funeral home and local Lutheran, Episcopal, and Methodist churches. By July 1975, the congregation had grown to 350 families and plans were underway for the construction of a permanent parish center, which was dedicated in May 1976. By the fall of 1985, the congregation had grown to 925 families and it was decided to expand the parish center and to build a new sanctuary. In the summer of 1991, the Paulists were withdrawn by their community and the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales were invited to staff the parish. In March 1993, our present sanctuary was dedicated. By 1998, the parish had grown to about 1900 households with over 5,500 people. A Capital Campaign was held, building began and on October 21, 2001, Bishop William Curlin joined our parish family to celebrate the dedication of our new Parish Life Center, a wonderful facility that provides us with a multipurpose room/gymnasium, additional meeting space and classrooms.

We are growing in numbers and growing in space. We also are growing in faith. St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church has always enjoyed a wonderful reputation in the community for being an outreach community that puts their faith into action. We have many requests for service both in our parish and local community.
